What this cable delivers

This 1.5-metre USB-C to USB-C cable carries up to 240W of power and moves data at up to 40Gbps. It supports 8K video at 60Hz on a single display or dual 4K monitors when two cables are used. The bi-directional connectors work with Thunderbolt 3 and 4 hosts and devices.

What to verify first

Your charger and the device you are powering must both support USB Power Delivery 3.1 Extended Power Range to reach 240W. For 40Gbps transfers the host port needs USB4 Gen 3x2 capability. Video output requires a source that can drive 8K or 4K over USB-C Alternate Mode.

What the spec enables

The 48V, 5A rating lets one cable charge phones, tablets and high-power laptops such as a 16-inch MacBook Pro at 140W. Backwards compatibility covers 180W, 140W, 100W, 60W and lower profiles. The 40Gbps bandwidth handles large file moves and eGPU traffic without a separate Thunderbolt cable.

Questions about this item

Does the 1.5 m cable ship with any adapters or do I need to buy a USB-C power brick separately?

The package contains only the USB-C to USB-C cable; a PD 3.1 charger capable of 240 W (48 V/5 A) must be purchased separately to reach the headline power figure.

Should I choose this 40 Gbps version or a lower-speed cable for my Thunderbolt dock?

Pick this 40 Gbps USB4 Gen 3x2 cable when the dock or eGPU is rated for Thunderbolt 3/4 or USB4 40 Gbps; a slower cable would bottleneck both data and 8K video.

What does the 40 Gbps rating actually deliver when I copy files between my laptop and an external SSD?

Real-world sequential throughput reaches about 2.8 GB/s read and 2.1 GB/s write with a compatible USB4 Gen 3x2 drive, so a 2.5 GB file transfers in roughly one second.
