The 12MP Full-Frame Sensor and Low-Light Video Focus

The Sony Alpha a7S III centres on a 12.1MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor paired with a BIONZ XR processor. It targets creators who prioritise low-light sensitivity and high-frame-rate 4K capture over high-resolution stills. The native ISO range reaches 409600 for clean footage in dark environments.

64GB Card, Bag, Reader and Cleaning Kit

The bundle adds a SanDisk 64GB Extreme PRO UHS-I SDXC card for immediate 4K 120p recording. An ULTIMAXX medium gadget bag protects the body during transport. A high-speed card reader accelerates offload workflows. A blower, microfiber cloth and starter cleaning kit keep the sensor and optics free of dust.

Body-Only Mount Requires Separate Lens

The camera ships without a lens, so buyers must source an E-mount optic before shooting. The 3.0-inch vari-angle touchscreen and 9.44m-dot QXGA OLED EVF simplify composition from awkward angles. 759-point Fast Hybrid AF and 5-axis SteadyShot stabilisation reduce setup friction for handheld video work.

Questions about this item

Does the 12.1MP Exmor R sensor need calibration or replacement over time?

The sensor is sealed inside the camera body and has no user-serviceable parts; routine care is limited to keeping the mirrorless mount clean when changing lenses.

What stops the UHD 4K 120p 10-bit 4:2:2 recording first — card capacity or heat?

The camera removes the recording time limit, so the 64GB UHS-I card capacity is reached before the thermal protection engages.

How loud does the body get when recording 4K 120p all day?

The camera uses passive cooling only, so it runs silently; the rear fan found on larger cinema bodies is absent, leaving only negligible electronic noise.
