Sony AIT3 Tape Cartridge

This cartridge provides 100 GB native capacity and 260 GB compressed capacity for AIT3 tape drives. It is sold as a single pack for businesses that need reliable offline backup or long-term archival storage. The media suits environments where data integrity and shelf life are priorities.

Replaces Earlier AIT Generations

The 100/260 GB capacity steps up from AIT1 and AIT2 cartridges, so the upgrade is worth it when backup windows shrink or tape counts grow. It also replaces damaged or exhausted AIT3 tapes in existing libraries. Buyers staying on AIT3 hardware gain immediate space without changing drives.

Check Drive Compatibility Before Ordering

Verify that your tape drive or library explicitly supports the AIT3 format and can write at the 100/260 GB specification. Confirm the drive firmware is current and that the mechanism accepts standard-length cartridges. Ensure your backup software recognises AIT3 media for correct spanning and verification.

Questions about this item

Does the SDX3100W//AWW cartridge fit a standard AIT3 drive slot?

Yes, the cartridge conforms to the AIT3 form factor and mounts directly into any drive that accepts AIT3 media.

What is the correct way to load the tape so the drive recognises the 100/260GB capacity?

Insert the cartridge label-side up until the mechanism clicks; the drive then calibrates and reports the native 100GB or compressed 260GB capacity.

When should the SDX3100W//AWW tape be retired and replaced?

Replace the cartridge after the drive logs excessive read/write errors or when the media-life counter approaches the manufacturer-rated limit.
