Network Camera for Outdoor Monitoring

The Sony SNC-RS86N is a day-night network dome camera built for exterior surveillance. It combines a 36x optical zoom with a 1/4-inch CCD sensor using Exwave HAD technology to deliver 530 TVL horizontal resolution. H.264, MPEG-4 and JPEG compression formats are supported over a 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet link. The housing is rated for rapid outdoor deployment in exposed locations.

Suitable for Fixed Outdoor Posts

This unit suits installations that need a single wide-range camera covering near and far detail with auto-focus from 3.4 to 122.4 mm. It is not for buyers who need built-in infrared illumination, wireless connectivity, onboard recording or pan-tilt movement beyond the motorised zoom lens. Systems requiring Power over Ethernet or higher than VGA-resolution streaming should look elsewhere.

36x Optical Zoom Defines Coverage

The 36x zoom ratio with a focal range of 3.4 to 122.4 mm sets the maximum reach and minimum field of view for this camera. At the wide end the horizontal angle reaches 57.8 degrees, narrowing to 1.7 degrees at full telephoto. Minimum focus distance shifts from 12.62 inches to 59.12 inches across the range, fixing the practical mounting distance for sharp identification.

Questions about this item

Does the Sony SNC-RS86N need a 100BASE-TX network switch to connect?

Yes, the camera uses a 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX RJ-45 port, so a compatible network switch or router with an Ethernet port is required for IP connectivity.

Can the four sensor inputs and two alarm outputs on the SNC-RS86N work with existing analogue alarm devices?

The camera provides four sensor inputs and two alarm outputs as standard I/O ports, allowing integration with compatible external sensors and alarm equipment.

How can I verify the SNC-RS86N is delivering 530 TVL horizontal resolution after installation?

Check the live video stream at 720 x 480 or 640 x 480 resolution; the specified 530 TVL horizontal resolution is achieved through the 1/4" Exwave HAD CCD and 36x optical zoom lens.
