Universal Toslink cable for home audio

The SOUNDFAM optical cable carries digital audio between any components that have Toslink ports. It connects sound bars, TVs, Blu-ray players, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles. The 10 ft length suits typical living-room layouts. It is not for systems that rely on HDMI eARC or analogue RCA connections.

Thermals noise and power draw

As a passive fibre-optic link the cable generates no heat and draws no power. No fan or active circuitry is present, so operation is completely silent. Signal integrity depends only on the quality of the fibre and connectors.

Build quality and daily use

A cotton-braided jacket with a 4.0 mm outer diameter resists kinks and stays flexible for routing behind furniture. Two Toslink connectors are fitted with 24 K gold-plated terminals and protective dust caps. The caps keep the tips clean when devices are moved or disconnected. The cable supports uncompressed PCM and 5.1 to 7.1 surround formats including Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD High Resolution.

Questions about this item

How do I fit the Toslink plugs without bending the 4.0 mm cable?

Remove the dust caps, line up each square connector with its port, and push straight in until it clicks; forcing the plug at an angle is the step that kinks the fibre.

What part will need replacing first on the SOUNDFAM cable?

The 24 K gold-plated terminals are protected by dust caps, so the only wear item is the cotton-braided jacket if it gets abraded or cut.

At what length does signal loss appear on a 10 ft run?

The PMMA fibre core is specified for 10 ft with no measurable attenuation for uncompressed PCM and 5.1 to 7.1 surround formats.
