Capacity and Interface

The SSK 8TB portable SSD delivers up to 2000 MB/s over USB 3.2 Gen 2. It targets users who need large, fast external storage for laptops, desktops and mobile devices. The black zinc-alloy enclosure helps dissipate heat during sustained transfers.

Bundled Cables and Mobile Support

Two cables are included: a USB-C cable rated for 20 Gbps and a USB-A cable rated for 10 Gbps. OTG support lets the drive connect directly to iPhone 15 and 16 Pro models for ProRes video recording. Thunderbolt ports are capped at 10 Gbps when used with this drive.

Installation and Common Issues

The drive is plug-and-play on most USB hosts and shows real-time activity through a blue LED indicator. Full 2000 MB/s performance requires a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port; other ports will run slower. Always eject safely to avoid data loss during active transfers.

Questions about this item

Will the TRIM and S.M.A.R.T. features require any manual maintenance to keep the 8TB drive healthy?

No, adaptive TRIM and S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics run automatically to optimise data blocks and monitor health without user intervention.

What caps the sustained 2000 MB/s transfer rate on this USB 3.2 Gen 2 drive?

The USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface limits throughput to 10 Gbps, so real-world sustained speeds will not exceed that ceiling.

How warm does the zinc-alloy case get during all-day transfers and does it need a fan?

The thick zinc-alloy enclosure dissipates heat 30% faster than standard cases, keeping the drive cool under continuous load without a fan.
