This enclosure accepts M.2 PCIe NVMe and SATA SSDs in 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths with M key or B+M key connectors. It does not work with B key only drives, PCIe AHCI SSDs, mSATA modules or non-M.2 form factors. The RTL9210B controller handles both protocols automatically. Buyers who need support for B key only SSDs or PCIe add-in cards must choose a different adapter.

Build & Daily Use

The aluminum alloy shell acts as a heatsink and two thermal pads are included to keep the drive cool during sustained transfers. Installation is completely tool-free so swapping drives takes seconds. Both a USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a USB Type-C to Type-A cable are supplied for broad host compatibility. The single blue LED shows power and activity status at a glance.

Interface Limits

NVMe drives reach up to 10 Gbps over USB 3.2 Gen 2 while SATA drives are limited to 6 Gbps by the SATA protocol itself. The enclosure is backward compatible with USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.0 at their respective speed ceilings. Thunderbolt 3 hosts can also be used but will not exceed the 10 Gbps USB ceiling. Buyers who require sustained PCIe 3.0 x4 or higher bandwidth should consider a direct motherboard slot instead.
