Converts two full-size mSATA SSDs into a single 2.5″ SATA drive with RAID 0, 1, JBOD or BIG modes via a JMicron JMS562 controller
The StarTech 25SAT22MSAT installs two full-size mSATA SSDs inside a single 2.5-inch SATA drive bay. A JMicron JMS562 controller presents the pair to the host through one SATA data and power connector. Hardware RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD and BIG spanning modes are selectable on the board.
Builders who want to combine two mSATA SSDs into one larger or redundant volume without using PCIe slots will find this adapter fits a standard 2.5-inch bay. It does not expose the drives as separate SATA devices, so systems that require independent drive recognition should consider a different approach.
The onboard chipset manages all RAID functions and the SATA III 6 Gbps link to the motherboard. RAID level is set via jumpers on the adapter, and the chosen mode determines whether capacity, speed or mirroring takes priority.
