StarTech.com PS22 Lite Black USB Audio Interface

The StarTech.com PS22 Lite Black is a USB audio interface designed for podcasters, streamers, and home-studio musicians who need a compact way to capture microphones, guitars, and line-level sources directly into a computer. It combines an XLR preamp with a dedicated instrument input, making it suited for solo creators recording voice or electric instruments.

Recording capacity and headroom at 24-bit/192kHz

The interface records at up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution with a 106dB dynamic range, providing clean headroom for detailed vocal takes and acoustic instruments. Its XLR preamp delivers up to 56dB of gain plus 48V phantom power, handling both condenser and dynamic microphones, while the high-impedance instrument input accommodates guitars and basses without an external DI box. Complex multi-track sessions or surround monitoring beyond 7.1 channels will exceed the device's I/O count.

Build quality and daily connectivity

The unit weighs 0.43 kilograms and measures 14.33in W x 12.83in H x 9.06in D, making it portable enough for mobile recording setups. It connects via USB and includes routing software with loopback and ASIO driver support for low-latency streaming workflows. The front panel offers direct monitoring and a visual indicator light for quick level checks. FireWire (IEEE 1394) ports are not present on this model, so owners of legacy FireWire-only gear will need a separate adapter.

Questions about this item

Will this 24-bit/192kHz interface run on my older PC that only has USB 2.0 ports?

The unit connects over USB and is compatible with standard USB ports on PC and Mac; no newer USB version is required for basic operation.

How can I verify the 106dB dynamic range and 48V phantom power are active after I plug it in?

The front-panel indicator light shows power and signal status; the ProStudio Routing Software control panel displays sample-rate lock and lets you enable phantom power per channel.

Does the box include an XLR cable for my condenser mic and a TRS cable for the guitar input?

The package contains the PS22 Lite Black interface and a USB cable; XLR, instrument and headphone cables are sold separately.
