DVI-A to VGA male cable

The StarTech.com DVIVGAMM6 connects a DVI-A or dual-mode DVI source to a VGA display using male connectors at both ends. The 6 ft cable is built to DVI specifications with moulded ends and strain relief for durable analogue video links.

Analogue-only signal path

Because the DVI connector is a 23 pin DVI-A single-link plug, the cable carries only analogue RGBHV signals and cannot transmit digital DVI-D or HDMI content. This makes it suitable for legacy monitors or projectors that lack digital inputs.

Single-link bandwidth ceiling

The single-link DVI-A interface limits maximum resolution and refresh rate to the capabilities of analogue VGA signalling, so high-resolution or high-refresh digital modes are not supported. Users needing digital output or dual-link bandwidth must choose a different cable type.

Questions about this item

Does the 23 pin DVI-A connector wear out after repeated plugging and unplugging?

The connectors are moulded with strain relief to reduce stress on the pins during normal connect and disconnect cycles.

What limits the usable length of the 6 ft cable when running at high resolutions?

The cable carries an analogue signal, so image quality can degrade with distance and interference beyond the rated 6 ft length.

Does the cable generate noticeable heat or draw extra power when left connected all day?

It is a passive analogue cable with no active electronics, so it produces no measurable heat and draws no power of its own.
