Converts Gigabit Ethernet to single-mode SC fiber at 1310 nm for 10 km links with wall-mountable design and LED monitoring
Type Single Mode SC - Gigabit
The StarTech.com MCMGBSCSM10 converts a 1000BASE-LX single-mode fiber link to a copper Ethernet port. It supports a maximum span of 10 km over duplex SC fiber at a 1310 nm wavelength. The unit delivers non-blocking wire-speed forwarding at 1 Gbps and includes an AC adapter with universal plug types. It operates from 0 to 50 °C and stores from -10 to 70 °C.
Network technicians who must bridge a copper segment to a single-mode fiber backbone at gigabit speed will find this converter a direct fit. Sites that require multimode fiber, 10 Gbps throughput, or Power over Ethernet on the copper side are not served by this device. Builders who need managed switching functions or SFP modularity should look at a different product class.
The decisive specification is the 10 km maximum distance over single-mode duplex fiber using the 1000BASE-LX standard. If the link budget or physical path exceeds this range, or if the installed fiber is multimode, this converter will not establish a valid link. Match the wavelength and fiber type exactly to the 1310 nm single-mode requirement.

Other versions of this model
Connect single-mode duplex fiber to the SC port, attach the included universal AC adapter, and set the DIP switch for Link Fault Pass-through if required — the DIP switch step is frequently overlooked.
The unit has no user-serviceable parts; keep vents clear and operate within 0–50 °C. Replace the external 5 V DC adapter if it fails, and swap fiber patch cords if connectors become dirty or damaged.
The 1 Gbps wire-speed forwarding rate and 10 km single-mode distance are the hard limits; the converter is non-blocking, so sustained traffic hits the 1 Gbps ceiling before any internal bottleneck.
