A 3 m passive SFP+ direct-attach twinax cable for 10 GbE links, Cisco-compatible and MSA-compliant
The STARTECH SFPCMM3M is a passive SFP+ Twinax cable built for 10 GbE connections between switches, servers or storage. It replaces fibre modules with a lower-cost copper link that draws under 0.05 W and installs without powering down the chassis.
Use this cable when you need a 3 m reach (9.8 ft) and want to avoid the expense and power draw of optical SFP+ transceivers. The jump is worth it for rack-to-rack or top-of-rack runs where latency must stay low and the link budget fits passive copper.
The 30 AWG conductors meet the 100 Ohm impedance target for 10 GbE and 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x Fibre Channel. Beyond 3 m the passive design runs out of margin, so longer spans require active or optical alternatives.

The cable uses standard SFP+ latching plugs on both ends that fit any MSA-compliant SFP+ cage with 100 Ohm differential impedance.
Insert each end straight until the latch clicks; the frequent error is angling the module, which bends the 30 AWG twinax pairs and breaks the latch.
Replace it if link errors rise or the latch no longer holds; the PVC jacket and passive copper have no active components to degrade beyond physical damage.
