The StarTech.com SPDIF2AA converts a digital coaxial or Toslink optical signal into analogue stereo RCA audio. It accepts two-channel PCM streams at 32, 44.1, 48 and 96 KHz sampling rates with 24-bit resolution. The compact black enclosure measures 1.7 by 1.1 by 2 inches and weighs 2.8 ounces. It operates from 0 to 70 °C and stores from -10 to 80 °C at 10 to 85 percent humidity.

Two-channel PCM at up to 96 KHz

The converter handles stereo digital sources such as TV outputs, disc players or game consoles and outputs line-level analogue audio for amplifiers or powered speakers. It supports the four listed sampling rates and 24-bit depth but does not decode multichannel formats such as Dolby Digital or DTS. Surround soundtracks will not play correctly through this device.

Optical and coaxial inputs to stereo RCA

A single digital coaxial RCA female and a single Toslink female provide the input options; both share the same internal decoder. The output is a pair of RCA female connectors for left and right channels. Buyers needing HDMI audio extraction, multichannel analogue output or sample rates above 96 KHz cannot use this converter.
