SteelSeries Apex 5 Hybrid Keyboard

The SteelSeries Apex 5 is a gaming keyboard built around hybrid blue switches that combine a tactile click with a membrane base. It features per-key RGB illumination and an integrated OLED smart display for gifs or game information. An aircraft-grade aluminum alloy frame provides structural rigidity. The board includes a premium magnetic wrist rest for palm support.

Installation and Common Issues

Connect the keyboard via its USB cable and use the three-way cable routing channels to keep the desk tidy. The magnetic wrist rest snaps on without tools. SteelSeries GG software is required to customise the OLED display and per-key lighting. Some users report the hybrid switches feel different from a pure mechanical click.

Capacity and Headroom

The hybrid blue switches are rated for 20 million keypresses. The OLED smart display measures 900 x 300 pixels. The keyboard dimensions are 5.51 in x 17.52 in x 1.59 in. It lacks dedicated macro keys and onboard profile storage without software. Buyers needing hot-swappable switches or a fully mechanical feel should look elsewhere.
