Full-size mechanical keyboard

The SteelSeries Apex 7 64636 is a full-size mechanical gaming keyboard built on an aircraft-grade aluminum alloy frame. It uses QX2 linear mechanical switches rated for 50 million keypresses and connects via USB 2.0. A detachable magnetic wrist rest is included for palm support during extended sessions. Windows and Mac OS X are both supported.

Low-profile thermals and silent operation

The 0.68-inch thin chassis keeps the keyboard cool to the touch during long periods of use. Linear switches produce no tactile bump or click, so keystrokes stay quiet in shared spaces. Power is drawn entirely from the USB port with no external adapter required. An integrated USB passthrough port adds convenience without increasing system load.

OLED Smart Display for in-game data

A built-in OLED Smart Display acts as an integrated command center for adjusting settings, switching profiles and viewing on-the-fly updates from games, Spotify, Discord and more. It lets you keep eyes on the action instead of tabbing out. Per-key RGB illumination offers 16.8 million colours for custom lighting. Buyers who need wireless connectivity or a compact layout without a number pad should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I install the SteelSeries Apex 7 64636 and what step is often missed?

Plug the USB 2.0 connector into a free port on your Windows or Mac OS X system; the keyboard works immediately, but the OLED Smart Display and per-key RGB require the SteelSeries Engine software to unlock profiles and on-screen info.

What part of the Apex 7 will need replacement first?

The QX2 Linear Mechanical RGB switches are rated for 50 million keypresses, so the switches themselves are the longest-life component; the detachable magnetic wrist rest or the USB cable will typically wear out before the switches.

What limit appears first during extended gaming sessions?

The OLED Smart Display is the first element to show thermal or image-retention limits under continuous high-brightness use, while the aircraft-grade 5000 alloy frame and linear switches remain stable.
