Server Cable Overview

The Supermicro CBL-SAST-0827 is a server accessory cable designed for internal storage connectivity. It links a single SLIMLINE SAS x8 port to four SATA x4 connectors. This cable suits system integrators and administrators building or servicing enterprise storage arrays.

Connection Layout

The assembly converts one high-density SAS interface into four standard SATA data paths. Each branch supports a separate drive, allowing a single controller port to address multiple devices. The 70cm length provides routing flexibility inside typical chassis layouts.

Wire Gauge Specification

Conductors use 32AWG wiring to balance signal integrity with bend radius in dense backplanes. Builders needing a different wire gauge or external connector style should select an alternative part.

Questions about this item

Will the 32AWG wires on this CBL-SAST-0827 need periodic replacement?

The 32AWG cable is a passive assembly with no moving parts or wear items, so it does not require scheduled replacement under normal server use.

What is the practical length limit for the 70cm SAS x8 to 8 SATA x4 connection?

The cable is manufactured at a fixed 70cm length; extending it would require additional certified SAS cabling and is not supported by this single assembly.

Does the CBL-SAST-0827 generate any heat or noise during continuous operation?

As a passive copper cable it produces no audible noise and negligible heat, drawing no power of its own while carrying SAS and SATA signals.
