Pocket-sized 9-band radio

The Supersonic SC-1080BT is a compact portable receiver that covers AM, FM and seven shortwave bands. A built-in BL-5C rechargeable cell removes the need for disposable batteries. Bluetooth connectivity lets you stream audio from a phone or media player. A micro SD slot and USB input add direct playback from local files.

Sustained everyday use

The rechargeable battery supports extended listening sessions without hunting for fresh cells. Bluetooth streaming and SD playback run from the same internal power source, so the unit stays self-contained on long trips. The 0 watt output rating indicates the speaker is sized for personal listening rather than room-filling volume. The torch function adds utility during power cuts or night-time use.

Replaces separate gadgets

This radio consolidates a shortwave receiver, a Bluetooth speaker and a flashlight into one device measuring 3.15 in by 5.15 in by 1.5 in. Travellers who previously carried a dedicated world-band radio and a separate speaker can reduce pack weight to .5 lb. Buyers who need high-output sound for groups or weather-alert certifications should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Does the BL-5C rechargeable battery get warm or make any noise during all-day playback?

The built-in BL-5C battery powers the radio silently with no moving parts, so it produces no audible noise and negligible heat during extended use.

What external audio source or storage do I need to use the Bluetooth streaming or micro SD slot?

You need a Bluetooth-enabled phone or media player for wireless streaming, and a micro SD card loaded with music files for the card slot.

Will the analogue AM/FM and shortwave tuner still pick up stations if I keep using an older external antenna?

The radio relies on its own telescopic antenna for AM, FM and SW1-7 bands; an external antenna cannot be connected.
