Adds four USB 3.0 ports via a PCIe 2.0 x1 slot, delivering up to 5 Gbps throughput with Renesas chipset and included low-profile bracket
The Syba SD-PEX20159 adds four USB 3.0 ports to a desktop through a single PCI Express 2.0 x1 slot. It uses a Renesas controller compliant with the xHCI 1.0 specification. Full-height and low-profile brackets are included for different case sizes. This card suits users who need more high-speed USB connections without replacing the motherboard.
An internal HDD power connector supplies additional +5 V power to the USB ports for attached devices. The board fits standard or slim chassis using the supplied brackets. Supported operating systems include Windows XP, Vista, 7 and Server 2008. No active cooling is required for typical desktop workloads.
Each port delivers up to 5 Gbps bandwidth and remains backward compatible with USB 2.0 speeds of 480 Mbps, 12 Mbps and 1.5 Mbps. The PCIe 2.0 x1 link provides sufficient bandwidth for multiple simultaneous transfers. The card does not support newer Windows versions or non-Windows platforms. Builders needing more than four ports or modern OS drivers should consider other solutions.

Insert the card into a PCIe 2.0 x1 slot, attach either the full-height or low-profile bracket to match your case, then connect the internal HDD power connector to supply extra +5 V to the four USB 3.0 ports before booting.
The on-board Renesas controller and PCIe interface are solid-state with no moving parts, so no scheduled maintenance is required; only the driver CD or a downloaded xHCI 1.0 driver may need updating if the OS changes.
The PCIe 2.0 x1 link caps aggregate bandwidth at 5 Gbps, so simultaneous high-speed traffic on multiple ports will hit that bus ceiling before the individual USB 3.0 5 Gbps PHY limits are reached.
