Eight-bay desktop NAS for business workloads

The Synology DS1823XS+ is an eight-bay desktop NAS built around an AMD Ryzen V1780 processor with 8 GB of DDR4 ECC SODIMM memory expandable to 32 GB. It targets small and medium businesses that need a private data centre on a desk for file sharing, backup, virtual machine storage and surveillance management. The unit ships diskless and supports up to 144 TB of raw capacity before expansion.

Verify drive and expansion compatibility first

Before ordering, confirm you will populate the bays with Synology 3.5" SATA HDDs or 2.5" SATA SSDs, plus up to two Synology M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs for cache. The single PCIe Gen 3.0 x4 slot accepts compatible network cards, and up to two DX517 expansion units can be attached later to reach 18 bays and 324 TB total. The system requires 100 V to 240 V AC power and an operating environment between 0°C and 40°C with 8% to 80% relative humidity.

Sustained throughput and IOPS under load

In extended operation the DS1823XS+ delivers over 3,100 MB/s sequential read and 2,600 MB/s sequential write with more than 173,100 random read IOPS and 80,800 random write IOPS. Power draw settles at 87.93 W during access and drops to 28.37 W when drives hibernate, so thermal output remains stable during long backup windows or continuous VM workloads. ECC memory and the Btrfs file system provide ongoing data integrity protection throughout heavy use.
