Two-bay desktop NAS with Intel Celeron J4125, 2.5 GbE LAN and upgradable DDR4 memory for personal cloud backup and media streaming
Model DS225+
The Synology DS225+ is a compact desktop network-attached storage device designed for home users and small offices that want a private cloud for backups and media streaming. It ships without drives so you can choose the capacity and redundancy level that matches your workload. The Intel Celeron J4125 processor handles everyday file serving and transcoding tasks with low power draw.
Each of the two 3.5-inch bays uses a tool-less tray that accepts SATA hard drives or SSDs; the tray locks with a simple latch so installation takes seconds. Memory upgrades use standard DDR4 SODIMM modules inserted into the single available slot after removing the bottom cover. The most common issue is inserting a module that exceeds the 6 GB total limit or mixing speeds, which can prevent the unit from posting.
The box provides one 2.5GbE port and one 1GbE RJ-45 port for link aggregation or separate networks, but throughput tops out at the slower link when both are bridged without a managed switch. Btrfs snapshots and checksums protect data integrity, yet the CPU cannot sustain heavy encryption or real-time transcoding for multiple 4K streams simultaneously. Buyers who need 10GbE connectivity or more than two drive bays should look elsewhere.

Other versions of this model
The DSM interface will show both drive bays as healthy, the Intel Celeron J4125 processor status as normal, and the 2GB DDR4 memory detected at 6GB maximum capacity.
The package includes the main unit, accessory pack, AC power adapter, AC power cord, and two RJ-45 LAN cables. SATA hard drives or SSDs for the two bays are sold separately.
Add a single 4GB DDR4 SODIMM module to the empty slot alongside the soldered 2GB, giving the supported 6GB total capacity.
