TASCAM FR-AV2 32-bit Float Field Recorder

TASCAM FR-AV2 Field Recorder

The TASCAM FR-AV2 is a compact field recorder designed for DIY videographers and content creators who need professional audio capture on location. It records 32-bit float audio directly to a 512GB microSDXC card, preventing clipped recordings without gain adjustments. The unit also generates and reads timecode both wired and wirelessly, simplifying multi-camera sync workflows. It functions as a USB-C audio interface for Mac, Windows, and iOS devices.

For Solo Video and Audio Sync

This recorder suits creators who need dual XLR/TRS combo inputs with Ultra HDDA preamps offering -127dBu EIN for clean microphone signals. A 3.5mm aux/timecode input and a separate 3.5mm line/timecode output plus headphone jack cover monitoring and external sync duties. Buyers requiring more than two microphone preamps or dedicated multi-track mixing controls should consider larger field mixers. The form factor prioritises portability over extensive physical faders.

32-Bit Float Recording at 192kHz

The decisive specification is 32-bit float recording at up to 192kHz sample rate using dual analog-to-digital converters. This captures a dynamic range far exceeding 24-bit or 16-bit systems, making clipped audio practically impossible regardless of input level. It removes the need to set precise gain during fast-moving shoots. Post-production level adjustments retain full tonal integrity and noise performance.
