19" 1U Rack for Five Pi 5 Units

This 1U server rack holds up to five Raspberry Pi 5 boards in a standard 19-inch enclosure. It targets developers and lab managers who need dense, organised compute nodes for clustering or edge workloads. The package includes five PCIe-to-M.2 NVME adapters so each board can add fast local storage. The design keeps GPIO headers accessible for additional HATs or sensors.

PCIe Gen2 and Gen3 NVME Limits

The adapters operate with PCIe NVME Gen2 and Gen3 signalling only, so newer Gen4 or Gen5 drives will fall back to the lower speeds. M.2 form factors supported are 2230, 2242 and 2280, while other keyings or lengths will not fit the 100x60 mm adapter footprint. LED indicators show per-drive activity but do not report health metrics beyond basic blink patterns.

Five Boards and Four Drive Slots

The chassis fits five Pi 5 units yet provides only four NVME adapter slots, so one board must run without direct NVME storage or use alternative boot media. Each adapter accepts a single M.2 NVME SSD up to the 2280 length, giving each equipped node high-speed local capacity. Builders needing NVME on every node must source an extra adapter separately.
