Professional Vocal Microphone

The Telefunken M80 Custom is a supercardioid dynamic vocal microphone built for singers and engineers who need stage-ready reliability. Its black body with a pink grille houses a moving-coil capsule and a custom-wound T80 transformer that together capture a 50 Hz to 18 kHz frequency range. The .98 inch diaphragm and pressure-gradient design deliver condenser-like detail without phantom power. It handles high SPL cleanly, making it a fit for live shows and studio sessions alike.

Simple Setup and Common Issues

Connect the microphone to any standard XLR input on a mixer, interface or PA system — no drivers or external power are required. The supercardioid pattern rejects off-axis sound, but it also picks up more directly behind the capsule than a cardioid, so point stage monitors at the null angles to avoid feedback. The rugged chassis resists tour wear, yet the thin capsule membrane can be damaged by sharp impacts or moisture; use a pop filter and store it dry. Proximity effect is minimised by the head design, but working too close still adds low-end weight.

Who This Suits and Who Should Look Elsewhere

Vocalists who want a durable handheld with extended high-frequency clarity and low feedback risk will appreciate the M80. It serves touring acts, broadcast booths and home studios that need a single mic for both environments. Buyers who require a USB connection for direct computer recording, a switchable polar pattern for multiple sources, or a significantly lower price point should look at other models. The distinctive pink grille is a fixed cosmetic feature, so users needing an all-black finish will need a different option.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the M80 is capturing the full 50 Hz to 18 kHz range after setup?

Record a vocal sweep and check the waveform for even response across the stated bandwidth; the custom T80 transformer and moving coil should reproduce lows and highs without roll-off.

What comes in the box with the black body pink grille M80, and what must I provide separately?

The microphone ships as a standalone handheld unit; you will need an XLR cable, a stand or clip, and a preamp or interface with phantom power disabled for dynamic operation.

Which version of the Telefunken M80 should I choose for condenser-like detail on loud stages?

The single M80 Custom with its .98" low-mass capsule, supercardioid pattern and high SPL handling delivers that condenser-like clarity in the black body pink grille finish.
