Sixteen-speaker 70 V system

The Theater Solutions TSQ670 package supplies sixteen in-ceiling speakers built for 70-volt distributed-audio networks. Each unit includes a 6.5-inch poly-mica woofer and a pivoting silk-titanium dome tweeter in a two-way design. The set targets commercial and retail installations that need wide, even coverage from a single amplifier channel.

Transformer taps and bypass

A built-in 70-volt transformer offers five power taps at 16, 8, 4, 2 and 1 watt, letting installers balance volume across zones without changing amplifier settings. The transformer can be bypassed entirely for standard low-impedance operation with a conventional receiver. Spring-loaded raw-wire terminals accept bare conductor for quick termination.

Coverage and limits

Frequency response spans 50 Hz to 20 kHz with a rated sensitivity of 91 dB at 8 ohms, providing full-range background music and paging in typical ceiling cavities. The speakers require an 8.4375-inch cut-out and 2.875-inch mounting depth, so they will not fit shallower plenums. Professional installation is recommended when the 70-volt transformer is used.

Questions about this item

Will the 6.5" poly mica woofers or butyl rubber surrounds need periodic replacement?

The butyl rubber surrounds resist drying and cracking far longer than foam, so the woofers typically run for many years without service.

What limits output first during long sessions — the 70 V transformer taps or the 91 dB sensitivity?

The five transformer taps (16, 8, 4, 2, 1 watt) set the maximum power each speaker can draw, so the tap choice caps output before the 91 dB sensitivity becomes a factor.

How much heat do the built-in 70 V transformers add when the system runs all day at the 16-watt tap?

Transformers at these power levels generate only modest warmth; the ABS housings dissipate it passively, so ceiling cavities stay at normal temperatures.
