Purpose and audience

This Thinkstar capture card targets streamers, educators and gamers who need a simple way to bring HDMI sources into a computer. It accepts a 4Kp60 input and delivers a 1080p60 capture stream over USB without requiring driver installation on Windows, Linux or macOS.

Thermals, noise and power

The aluminium-alloy shell acts as a passive heatsink, so the device runs silently with no fan noise during typical capture sessions. Power is drawn entirely from the USB 3.0 bus at 300 to 350 MB/s throughput, and the dongle remains compatible with USB 2.0 ports at reduced bandwidth.

Bundled value

The package includes the capture dongle itself, providing immediate plug-and-play operation for live broadcasting, teaching or game recording. No additional software discs, cables or licences are supplied, so users rely on standard UVC and UAC support already present in their chosen streaming or conferencing applications.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the 4K capture card to my PC for 1080p 60Fps capture?

Plug the USB 3.0 cable into a USB 3.0 port for 300-350Mb/s throughput; the device uses UVC and UAC standards so no driver installation is required on Windows, Linux or OS X.

What part of the capture card is most likely to wear out first?

The USB 3.0 connector and cable endure repeated insertion and flexing; the aluminium alloy shell protects the internal chip, so the cable and port are the primary wear points over time.

At what resolution and frame rate does the capture card hit its throughput ceiling during long sessions?

The device captures 1080p at 60 frames per second with a sustained 300-350Mb/s data rate over USB 3.0; this is the maximum capture performance specified.
