Connects 2.5"/3.5" IDE and SATA drives via USB 3.0 for data transfer and backup
The Tonstep USB 3.0 to IDE & SATA converter connects 2.5-inch, 3.5-inch and 5.25-inch IDE, SATA or SSD drives to a USB port. It suits technicians, archivists and hobbyists who need quick access to legacy or mixed-format storage without installing drives internally. The compact kit travels easily and supports drives up to 8 TB capacity.
The adapter draws power directly from the USB connection and has no moving parts of its own. It adds no audible noise and negligible heat to a workstation. Transfer rates reach the USB 3.0 limit of 5 Gbps, though actual throughput depends on the attached drive. The device remains compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 hosts.
No internal bay, mounting bracket or extra cabling is required; the converter sits outside the chassis and frees all internal slots for other components. It accepts three drives simultaneously for direct disk-to-disk copying. A spare USB port and the supplied power cable for 3.5-inch drives are the only prerequisites.

Plug the IDE drive into the adapter's IDE connector, attach the included power adapter to the drive's power socket, then connect the USB 3.0 cable to the computer. The step most users miss is powering the 3.5" drive before the USB link is made.
The USB 3.0 cable and the external power supply are the only parts that wear out. If transfer errors appear, replace the cable first; if drives fail to spin up, replace the power supply.
The connected drive's own sustained transfer rate becomes the bottleneck before the adapter's 5 Gbps USB 3.0 interface is saturated.
