Ready-to-go 2 TB portable drive

The Toshiba Canvio Advance HDTCA20XK3AA delivers 2 TB of storage in a 2.5 inch form factor that draws power from a single USB 3.0 cable. It arrives formatted NTFS for Windows 10 and 8.1 so you can start moving files immediately without installing drivers.

Backup software and cross-platform setup

A downloadable Toshiba Storage Backup application adds scheduled, incremental backups with a simple scheduler for Windows users. Mac owners on macOS 10.13 through 10.15 must reformat the drive before use, after which it works like any other external volume.

Textured black enclosure and everyday connectivity

The matte black chassis measures 0.55 by 3.10 by 4.30 inches and weighs 0.33 lb, slipping easily into a laptop bag. The supplied USB 3.0 cable is backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports, so the drive remains usable on older machines without extra adapters.

Questions about this item

Does the 2.5" drive inside the Canvio Advance need periodic lubrication or bearing replacement?

No, the sealed 2.5" mechanism requires no user lubrication or bearing service during its operational life.

What thermal limit appears first when the 2TB drive runs continuously over USB 3.0?

The enclosure surface temperature rises until the internal drive hits its rated operating ceiling, then firmware throttles transfer speed to protect the mechanism.

How loud and hot does the black HDTCA20XK3AA get during all-day file transfers?

It emits a faint seek hum and the aluminium chassis reaches warm-but-safe levels, drawing only bus power from the USB 3.0 port.
