Controls up to 16 computers with one keyboard, monitor and mouse, supports USB and PS/2 console ports, auto-scan from 10 to 100 seconds, and 2048 x 1536 VGA resolution
The TRENDnet TK-1603R is a rack-mountable KVM switch that lets administrators control up to 16 computers or servers from a single keyboard, monitor and mouse. It supports USB and PS/2 console interfaces and USB-only connections on the PC side. The unit works with Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems.
The switch operates between 0 °C and 40 °C (32 °F to 104 °F) in non-condensing humidity up to 80 percent. It draws power from an included 9V DC 1A external adapter, so no internal fan or active cooling is required. Silent solid-state operation keeps noise at zero in normal use.
The package includes the KVM switch, the external power adapter and a user manual. No driver installation is needed because the device uses plug-and-play USB and PS/2 interfaces on the console side. Hot-key and push-button switching, programmable auto-scan intervals from 10 to 99 seconds and LED status indicators work immediately after connection.

Mount the 16.0" x 6.5" x 1.8" unit in a standard rack, connect the 9V DC 1A external power adapter first, then attach up to 16 computers via the VGA HDB 15-pin and USB cables, and finally plug the console keyboard, mouse, and monitor into the front ports; the step most often missed is powering the switch before connecting the computers.
The external 9V DC 1A power adapter is the only field-replaceable part; the switch itself has no fan, battery, or user-serviceable components, so maintenance is limited to keeping the vents clear and operating within the 0 °C–40 °C temperature and 0 %–80 % non-condensing humidity range.
The thermal limit of 40 °C ambient temperature is the first constraint; the metal chassis relies on passive cooling, so sustained operation in a poorly ventilated rack can push the unit past its rated operating temperature before any electronic limit is reached.
