15 ft Cat6 patch cable

This 15 ft orange Cat6 UTP cable uses RJ45 connectors on both ends for standard wired networking. The snagless molded boots protect the locking tabs during repeated insertion and removal. It is built for 10, 100 and 1000 Base-T Ethernet speeds in typical indoor environments. The orange jacket aids quick visual identification in dense patch panels.

Replaces older Cat5 or Cat5e links

Swapping a Cat5 or Cat5e patch cord for this Cat6 cable removes a bottleneck when the connected ports negotiate gigabit rates. The upgrade is worthwhile when the switch, router or network adapter already supports 1000 Mbps but the existing cable limits the link to 100 Mbps. If the network hardware tops out at 100 Mbps, the higher-category cable will not raise throughput.

Unshielded UTP limits noise immunity

Because the cable is unshielded twisted pair, it is more susceptible to electromagnetic interference than shielded alternatives. In high-density data centres or near power cables, alien crosstalk can reduce the reliable link distance below the standard 100 m channel limit. For runs that stay within a single rack or office desk, the UTP construction is normally adequate.
