12U Open Frame Rack

The Tripp Lite SR2POST12 is a 12U 2-post open frame rack designed for 19 inch EIA-standard equipment up to 36 inches deep. It suits laboratories, test setups, small network closets and secure IT locations where floor space is limited. The free-standing design rests on rubber feet for desktop, floor or counter placement. Heavy-duty steel construction with a black powder-coated finish supports a maximum load capacity of 110 lbs.

Upgrade from Wall Mounts

This rack replaces wall-mounted shelves or makeshift stacking when you need organised, accessible equipment at your immediate workspace. The jump is worth it when you must service network switches, routers, patch panels or audio/video components frequently and require front and rear access. It secures 12U of gear without permanent wall anchoring. Buyers who need enclosed sides, locking doors or seismic-rated bracing should look elsewhere.

Simple Assembly Included

Assembly uses only the included hardware: two uprights, two base brackets, a front cross member, M5 and M6 screws, M6 cage nuts, cup washers and rubber feet. Vertical rails feature threaded 12-24 holes and cable management slots for securing equipment. Only standard hand tools are required for setup. The rack does not hinge away from a wall bracket, so ensure clearance behind the unit for cabling before final positioning.

Questions about this item

How much floor or desktop space does the 12U frame occupy?

The free-standing rack sits on four rubber feet and holds 19-inch equipment up to 36 inches deep, so allow at least that depth plus clearance for cables.

Which fasteners are used to mount gear to the M6 cagenut rails?

Use the 20 included M6 screws with the 20 M6 cage nuts and cup washers; only standard hand tools are required for assembly.

When should the M6 cage nuts and cup washers be replaced?

Replace any cage nut or cup washer that shows stripped threads or deformation after repeated equipment changes to maintain the 110 lb load rating.
