42U Open Frame Server Rack

The Tripp Lite SR42UBEXPND is a 42U four-post open frame rack built for high-density server and networking deployments in IT environments. It ships fully assembled with preinstalled casters and leveling feet for immediate positioning. Vendor-neutral square-hole rails accept all EIA-310-D compliant 19-inch equipment. Integrated baying tabs allow multiple racks to be joined in standard data-center rows.

Sustained Load Capacity

The frame supports a 3000 lbs stationary weight capacity and a 2250 lbs rolling load capacity, enabling dense equipment configurations without structural compromise. Heavy-duty casters maintain stability when the rack is moved into position under full load. Leveling feet then secure the unit for long-term stationary operation. The welded steel construction resists deflection during continuous operation.

Build Quality and Daily Use

The rack measures 78.5 inches high, 23.63 inches wide and 43.0 inches deep with a standard 24-inch width that optimises floor space. Toolless mounting slots simplify installation of power distribution units and vertical cable managers. Adjustable rails include an easy-view depth index to eliminate repeated measurements during hardware changes. Stabilising brackets are included for added rigidity. Compliance includes RoHS, UL 60950, IEC 60297-3-100 and DIN 41494 standards.

Questions about this item

Does the open frame design make the SR42UBEXPND quieter or cooler than an enclosed cabinet for all-day operation?

The open frame has no panels or fans, so it adds no noise and allows unrestricted airflow around the 42U of equipment; thermal performance depends entirely on the installed devices.

Which mounting hardware must I already own to install 19-inch gear in the square-hole rails?

You need cage nuts and screws compatible with the EIA-310-D square holes; the rack ships with stabilizing brackets only.

Can I bolt this 42U rack side-by-side with an older 42U cabinet that also follows EIA-310-D spacing?

Yes, integrated baying tabs let you join the SR42UBEXPND to adjacent EIA-310-D racks in a standard row.
