Critical Power Protection

The Tripp Lite SU5000RT4UTF is a 5000VA 4500W on-line double-conversion UPS designed for critical server, network and telecommunications equipment. It delivers continuous sine-wave output at 120V and 208V while correcting brownouts down to 100V and overvoltages up to 300V without using battery power. The 6U rack/tower form factor suits data centres and network closets that require zero transfer time during power anomalies.

Connector Layout and Serviceability

Sixteen outlets provide 12 NEMA 5-15/20R, two L6-20R and two L6-30R receptacles fed by an L6-30P input cord. Hot-swappable VRLA battery modules can be replaced by the user without shutting down connected loads. Management interfaces include HID USB, DB9 serial, contact closure, EPO and an expansion slot for an optional SNMP or web card, enabling integration with Windows and Mac power management.

Thermal and Electrical Behaviour

Double-conversion topology isolates connected devices from harmonic distortion and fast electrical impulses while maintaining output within two percent of nominal voltage. At a full 4.50 kW load the internal battery provides approximately 0.06 hour of runtime. The unit weighs 279 lb and measures 6.85 by 17.5 by 20.7 inches, so adequate rack support and airflow clearance are required for sustained operation.

Questions about this item

What does the USB HID interface actually let me control on this UPS?

The USB HID port enables integration with the built-in power management and auto-shutdown features of Windows and Mac OS X without extra software.

How much rack space does the 6U rack/tower configuration occupy and what are the physical dimensions?

The unit uses 6U of rack space (4U power module plus 2U step-down transformer) and measures 6.85 inches high by 17.5 inches wide by 20.7 inches deep.

What is the correct sequence for installing the hot-swappable batteries and which step is most often missed?

Slide the battery tray into the 4U power module, connect the internal battery cables, then secure the tray; the step most often missed is firmly seating the cable connectors before locking the tray.
