A compact splitter that converts 802.3af/at or 48V passive PoE into 15W USB power for phones and tablets, with isolated outputs, short-circuit protection.
The Tycon POE-MSPLT-USB converts 802.3af/at or passive 48 V PoE into a 15 W USB supply for smartphones, tablets and similar USB-powered gear. It draws power from any PoE switch or active PoE source and also accepts passive 48 VDC PoE. Inputs and outputs are isolated with short-circuit and over-current protection. A -25 to +50 °C operating range supports outdoor use inside weatherproof enclosures.
The unit replaces a separate USB wall charger when a PoE cable already reaches the installation point such as a ceiling-mounted access point, camera or kiosk. The upgrade is worthwhile where AC outlets are absent, inconvenient or would require extra conduit and trunking. It is not suited for devices that demand more than 15 W or for USB-C Power Delivery negotiation beyond the fixed output.
The 15 W USB output is bounded by the PoE class available from the upstream switch; 802.3af ports may deliver less than the rated maximum after cable losses. Passive 48 VDC sources must be able to supply the required current without voltage sag. The splitter does not perform voltage step-up, so long cable runs that drop the PoE voltage below specification will reduce available USB power.
