All-weather 4K PoE dome camera

The Ubiquiti AI Dome is a vandal-proof dome camera that captures 4K video at 30 frames per second using an 8MP sensor. It connects and powers through a single RJ45 PoE link, drawing up to 10W from a 42.5–57V DC supply. Integrated microphone and microSD edge recording support complete the feature set for standalone or managed deployments.

Upgrade from basic 1080p domes

Replacing a standard 1080p dome with this 4K unit quadruples pixel count, making face and licence-plate recognition practical at distance. The jump is worth it when identification evidence matters more than general overview, and when existing PoE infrastructure can deliver the required voltage range without new cabling.

Limits of fixed-focal PoE deployment

The fixed 109.9° horizontal field of view cannot be narrowed optically, so distant targets occupy fewer pixels than with a varifocal lens. IR illumination reaches 40 metres, beyond which night detail drops sharply. PoE power caps at 10W, so heater or auxiliary devices cannot be added on the same cable run.

Questions about this item

What are the exact dimensions and weight of the AI Dome camera for mounting on a wall or ceiling?

The camera measures 118 mm in diameter by 90.8 mm in height (4.6 x 5.5 inches) and weighs 700 g (1.5 lb).

How do I install the camera and what is the most common mistake to avoid?

Connect the RJ45 cable to a PoE switch or injector supplying 42.5—57V DC; the camera draws up to 10 W. The frequent error is using a non-PoE switch or an injector below 42.5 V, which leaves the unit unpowered.

What maintenance or replacement items should I plan for after deployment?

The fixed-focal lens and sealed dome need no internal servicing; plan only periodic cleaning of the dome cover to maintain the 40 m IR night vision and checking the micro SD card health if edge recording is enabled.
