  • UniFi ecosystem allows unlimited network scaling from a single controller

Dual-Band Wi-Fi Access Point

The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi AC SHD UAP-AC-SHD is a dual-band wireless access point built for indoor and outdoor deployment. It supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies to serve homes and businesses that need a single managed Wi-Fi infrastructure. The device integrates into the UniFi ecosystem for centralised configuration and monitoring.

Wave 2 Throughput and Coverage Limits

The 802.11ac Wave 2 radio delivers a maximum data rate of 1.69 Gbit/s across both bands. Practical throughput will be lower due to channel width, client capability and environmental interference. The supplier states a coverage range of up to 1500 square feet, which assumes open space and optimal mounting height.

Dedicated Security Radio as Deciding Factor

A third dedicated radio handles security scanning, spectrum analysis and Bluetooth beacon duties without pausing client traffic. This hardware separation is the specification that determines whether the SHD model fits a deployment needing continuous wireless intrusion detection and location services alongside user access.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band for my devices?

This access point runs both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously, so every device connects to the band that suits it best without you choosing a single version.

What does the 1.69 Gbit/s rate mean once the unit is mounted?

The 1.69 Gbit/s is the peak 802.11ac Wave 2 link speed; real throughput will be lower and depends on client capability, channel width and local interference.

Which Wi-Fi standard caps the performance in practice?

The hardware implements 802.11ac Wave 2, so that standard sets the maximum PHY rate and feature set you will see in daily use.
