SKU CH-R6BM-G5MNK

Braided fibre-optical cable carries S/PDIF audio between soundbars, consoles and AV gear with 2.0, 5.1 and 7.1 surround support

  • Clearer sound thanks to fibre-optic design that blocks electromagnetic and radio-frequency noise
  • Braided jacket plus zinc-alloy connectors resist cuts, scratches and nicks for lasting durability
  • Removable rubber tips protect the optical ends when the cable is not in use
  • Works with PCM 2.0, Dolby 5.1 and 7.1, DTS and other S/PDIF audio formats
  • Connects soundbars, consoles, Blu-ray players and other S/PDIF devices to TVs, receivers or DACs

Toslink cable for home theatre

The UGREEN optical audio cable uses a standard S/PDIF interface to link devices such as soundbars, Blu-ray players, game consoles and digital recorders to a TV, receiver or digital-to-analogue converter. The 6 ft braided fibre construction resists cuts and scratches while zinc-alloy connectors and removable rubber tips protect the delicate ends during storage or installation.

Practical limits of the S/PDIF interface

The optical link carries 2-channel PCM and compressed multi-channel formats including Dolby 2.0, 5.1 and 7.1 plus DTS without electromagnetic or radio-frequency interference. It cannot transmit uncompressed multi-channel PCM beyond two channels or newer object-based codecs such as Dolby Atmos or DTS:X because the S/PDIF bandwidth ceiling does not support them.

Capacity and headroom

The cable comfortably handles stereo music, film soundtracks and gaming audio up to 7.1 surround sound delivered over standard S/PDIF. It runs out of headroom when a source tries to send uncompressed 5.1 or 7.1 LPCM or advanced immersive formats that exceed the protocol's fixed data rate, requiring an HDMI eARC or multi-channel analogue connection instead.

Questions about this item

Which length should I choose for a TV-to-soundbar run?

The 6 ft length suits typical living-room distances between a TV and a soundbar or receiver.

What does the S/PDIF optical link actually carry in my system?

It transmits 2-channel PCM, Dolby 2.0/5.1/7.1, DTS and LPCM 5.1 without electromagnetic interference.

Does the Toslink connector limit the surround formats I can hear?

The standard S/PDIF optical interface caps output to the listed Dolby and DTS formats; it cannot pass lossless multi-channel codecs.
