What the Edition 8 EX is and who it suits

The Edition 8 EX is a closed-back, over-ear headphone built around 40 mm titanium-plated drivers with a 38 Ohm impedance and 96 dB sensitivity. It weighs 330 g without cable and targets listeners who want detailed, immersive sound in a portable, handcrafted package.

How it fits a listening setup

The detachable 4-core cable with LEMO connectors provides a secure, low-resistance link to portable players, desktop amplifiers or studio interfaces. Closed-back construction isolates the listener from ambient noise while preventing sound leakage, freeing the user to enjoy critical listening in shared or quiet spaces without disturbing others.

Capacity and headroom

A 5 Hz to 46,000 Hz frequency range captures deep sub-bass and extended treble detail well beyond the audible limit. The 38 Ohm load is easily driven by most mobile and desktop sources, so volume headroom is generous; however, the closed design and fixed tuning mean the soundstage cannot match open-back models for air and spatial width.

Questions about this item

What is the first limit you reach when driving the 38 Ohm Edition 8 EX at high volume for hours?

The 38 Ohm impedance and 96 dB sensitivity mean most portable sources run out of clean voltage before the 40 mm titanium-plated drivers hit their thermal limit.

How much heat or noise do the closed-back ear cups produce during all-day sessions?

Passive drivers generate no fan noise; the chrome-plated PVD cups and ceramic inlays dissipate warmth so the pads stay near body temperature even after hours of use.

Which connector must your source already have to plug the supplied cable straight in?

The detachable 4-core cable terminates in LEMO connectors, so your amplifier or DAC needs a matching LEMO socket or an adapter to work without extra leads.
