USB Magnetic Stripe Reader for POS Systems

The Uniform Industrial Corporation MSR213U-33AUKNR is a triple-track magnetic stripe reader built for point-of-sale, time-keeping and security applications. It connects via USB using HID or keyboard emulation so no custom driver is required. The unit reads ISO 7810, 7811 and AAMVA formatted cards at speeds from 5 to 55 inches per second. A rated head life of 1,000,000 passes supports high-volume daily use.

Suited for Indoor Countertop Deployments

This reader fits retail tills, employee clock-in stations and access-control desks that need reliable swipe capture of credit, debit, loyalty or licence cards. The indoor-only chassis and 0.26 lbs weight make it a permanent desktop fixture. Buyers who need a handheld, battery-powered or weather-sealed device for mobile or outdoor use should look at a different form factor.

USB-HID and Keyboard Emulation Interface

The single specification that decides fit is the USB-HID/USB-Keyboard emulation output. Host software must accept keystroke input or standard HID reports; systems that expect a virtual COM port, raw USB bulk endpoints or a proprietary protocol will not recognise the data stream.

Questions about this item

What does the 5 to 50 IPS read speed mean for daily use?

It accepts swipes from a slow 5 inches per second up to a fast 50 inches per second, so staff can swipe naturally without slowing down.

How does the USB-HID keyboard emulation interface limit what the reader can do?

It sends card data as keystrokes into any text field, so no special driver is needed, but it cannot encrypt or tokenise the data before the OS sees it.

Will the 3.9 by 1.3 by 1.1 inch body fit on a crowded counter?

Yes, the compact footprint takes up little space and the 0.26 lb weight lets it sit securely on any flat surface without a mount.
