GPS Active Antenna MCX 28dB Magnetic 1m

This GPS active antenna uses a built-in low noise amplifier to boost satellite signals for a car head unit. The magnetic base secures the unit to any metal roof surface without drilling. It connects through an MCX male plug and draws 2.7 to 5 volt power from the host device. Navigation software receives location and speed data once the antenna is fitted.

Capacity and headroom

The amplifier provides 28dB gain before the cable, centred on the 1575.42 MHz GPS frequency. One metre of 3mm diameter cable links the antenna to the head unit. The compact housing measures 45.5 by 38.5 by 14mm and weighs very little. Signal strength improves in urban canyons or under light foliage where the factory antenna struggles.

Practical limits of the MCX interface

The MCX male connector has a 3.5mm diameter and mates with a matching female port on the head unit. Cable length is fixed at one metre, so the head unit must be within reach of the roof mounting point. Voltage must stay within the 2.7 to 5 volt range supplied by the host. No additional mounting hardware or signal splitters are included.

Questions about this item

Will the MCX male connector on this antenna fit the GPS port on my older car head unit?

The antenna uses an MCX male connector with a 3.5 mm diameter, which is the standard interface for many factory and aftermarket head units with a dedicated GPS input.

How can I verify the 28 dB LNA is actually amplifying the 1575.42 MHz signal after I mount it?

Connect the antenna, power the head unit, and check the satellite status screen; a healthy lock on multiple satellites with strong signal bars confirms the amplifier is working at the specified centre frequency.

Does the package include any adapters or power cables, or is the 1 metre antenna the only item supplied?

The box contains only the GPS active antenna with its integrated 1 metre cable and magnetic base; no extra adapters, power leads or mounting hardware are included.
