VGA HD15 to DB9 RS232 Adapter Cable

This 1.35 metre cable converts a 15 pin VGA connector to a 9 pin DB9 RS232 interface. It enables legacy serial peripherals such as modems and printers to attach to a PC video port. The light grey assembly weighs 87g and ships as a single unit.

Passive wiring draws no external power

The adapter operates without an additional power supply because it relies on straight-through pin mapping. No active circuitry means zero heat generation and silent operation during data transfer. Power consumption is limited to the host port's standard signalling current.

Male-to-male ends lock with thumb screws

Both connectors feature standard screw posts for secure panel mounting. The 53 inch length suits desktop or rack placements without strain. Buyers needing a female DB9 port or a longer reach will require a different cable or a gender changer.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the 15 pin HD15 male end to my VGA port?

Align the 15 pins with the VGA socket, tighten the thumbscrews fully, then plug the DB9 male end into the RS232 port on the peripheral.

Will the 87g cable strain the DB9 port over time?

The lightweight 87g build minimises leverage, but secure both connectors with their screws to prevent the cable weight from loosening the RS232 connection.

Does the 1.35M length limit RS232 signal reliability?

At 1.35 metres the cable stays well within the RS232 recommended distance, so sustained data transfer should remain stable without repeaters.
