Rigid Plate Caster for Yard Carts

This rigid plate caster fits wheelbarrows and yard carts that need a fixed-direction wheel. It carries a 250 lb load rating on a 3 in cast-iron wheel with a 1 1/4 in tread width. The non-marking iron tread rolls on hard surfaces without leaving residue. Builders and gardeners use it to replace worn wheels on heavy-duty outdoor equipment.

Limits of a Rigid Caster Design

A rigid caster does not swivel, so the cart or wheelbarrow steers only by pivoting on its other wheels. The 250 lb rating applies to the single wheel; total capacity depends on the number of casters installed. No brake or swivel lock is included, so the unit cannot be locked in place on slopes. The iron tread is hard and can damage delicate flooring if used indoors.

Simple Bolt-On Installation

The standard plate bolts directly to the frame of a wheelbarrow or cart using four mounting holes. Alignment is straightforward because the caster does not rotate. The most common issue is mismatched hole spacing on older frames, which requires drilling new holes. Ensure the mounting surface is flat so the wheel tracks true under load.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 250 lb version or a lower capacity caster?

Choose the 250 lb rating if your loaded cart or wheelbarrow will weigh up to that limit; a lower rating risks premature wear or failure under the same load.

What does the 250 lb load rating mean when the caster is mounted on a wheelbarrow?

It is the maximum combined weight of the wheelbarrow plus contents that this single caster can support continuously on a flat, even surface.

How does the rigid plate mounting affect steering compared to a swivel caster?

The rigid plate keeps the wheel fixed straight ahead, so the equipment tracks in a straight line and must be turned by pivoting the opposite swivel casters.
