What the BT500 battery tester does
The BT500 is a handheld load tester that checks 6 V, 12 V and 24 V batteries rated from 5 to 3000 CCA. It works with regular flooded, AGM flat plate, AGM spiral, GEL and EFB types. The tool measures voltage, internal resistance, state of health and state of charge without needing its own power source. It also runs cranking and charging system tests to help separate a weak battery from a failing alternator. It is not suitable for lithium, deep-cycle or golf-cart batteries.
Check your battery type and voltage before ordering
Confirm the battery you plan to test is a 6 V, 12 V or 24 V lead-acid unit of the supported chemistries. The tester draws its operating power from the battery under test, so the battery must retain enough voltage to run the unit. Verify the CCA rating falls within the 5 to 3000 CCA range. If your application uses lithium, deep-cycle or golf-cart batteries, this tester will not provide valid results.
Thermals noise and power draw in normal use
The tester is powered entirely by the battery being tested, so it adds no load to the vehicle electrical system beyond the brief test pulses. No internal fan or active cooling is present, so operation is silent. The compact 6.45 by 3.35 by 0.96 inch housing stays at ambient temperature during typical use. Because it consumes only the tiny current needed for measurement, it does not drain a healthy battery during testing.
