2x Ultra Macro APO Lens for Canon EF

The Venus Optics Laowa 100mm f/2.8 delivers 2x magnification with a 9.72 inch minimum focus distance. Its apochromatic design minimises chromatic aberration for true-to-life colour reproduction. The 100mm focal length suits macro work, portraits and general photography. Manual aperture control gives precise exposure adjustment.

Optical performance and handling

The APO construction reduces colour fringing across the frame for clean detail at high magnification. A 67mm filter thread accepts the included ProOptic UV filter for front-element protection. The lens ships with front and rear caps, a pouch and a lens-cap tether for convenient handling. Compact dimensions keep the kit light for field use.

Upgrade from standard 1:1 macro lenses

Photographers moving from 1:1 macro optics gain twice the subject magnification without changing working distance. The longer 100mm focal length adds comfort for shy subjects compared to shorter macro lenses. Buyers needing autofocus or electronic aperture control should consider alternatives. The manual design suits deliberate, tripod-based shooting.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the 67mm filters in the ProOptic kit to the lens?

Screw the filter onto the front 67mm thread after removing the supplied UV filter, taking care not to cross-thread the thin aluminium ring.

What part of this manual-aperture lens will need adjustment or replacement over time?

The mechanical aperture ring and focus helicoid may develop stiffness; periodic re-greasing by a technician keeps them smooth.

At what magnification does the effective aperture become noticeably darker during extended macro sessions?

At the full 2x magnification the effective aperture drops two stops, so the viewfinder dims significantly during prolonged close-up work.
