Macro magnification and mount

The Venus Optics Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO lens is built for Canon RF APS-C mirrorless cameras. It delivers 2:1 life-size magnification with a minimum focusing distance of 6.7 inches (17 cm). Three Extra-Low Dispersion glass elements control chromatic aberration for sharp, colour-accurate results. The bright f/2.8 aperture supports low-light work and shallow depth of field.

Build integration and handling

At 11.8 oz (335 g) the lens is light and compact, making it easy to carry on extended field sessions. The 65 mm focal length gives a comfortable working distance for insects, flowers and small objects without crowding the subject. Manual focus operation suits deliberate macro composition where precise control matters more than speed.

Sustained optical behaviour

Optical performance remains consistent during prolonged close-up sessions because the APO design with three ED elements continuously suppresses colour fringing. The f/2.8 aperture holds exposure stability when light changes, reducing the need to push ISO. Photographers needing autofocus, image stabilisation or magnification beyond 2:1 should consider other options.

Questions about this item

What minimum focusing distance does the Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO give for its 2:1 magnification?

The lens focuses as close as 6.7 inches (17 cm) from the subject to achieve 2:1 magnification.

How much does the lens weigh and how hot or noisy does it get during all-day macro sessions?

It weighs 11.8 oz (335 g), has no moving electronic parts and therefore runs silently with no heat build-up.

Which camera mount must I already own to attach this lens directly?

The lens is built for the Canon RF mount, so you need an APS-C mirrorless body with that mount.
