Verkada CD42 Outdoor Dome Camera

The Verkada CD42-256-HW is a 5MP outdoor dome camera built for commercial and residential surveillance. It captures video at 2688 x 1944 resolution through a fixed 2.8mm lens on a 1/2.8 inch sensor. Wired Ethernet connectivity supplies both data and power over a single cable. The dome form factor suits ceiling or wall mounting in exposed locations.

Installation and Common Issues

The camera connects via an RJ-45 port using a standard Ethernet cable for PoE network and power delivery. No separate power adapter is required when a PoE switch or injector is present. A frequent issue is insufficient PoE budget on the switch, which prevents the unit from powering up. Cable runs must stay within the 100 metre Ethernet limit to avoid signal loss.

Sustained Operation Behaviour

During continuous recording the camera maintains a steady 10/100Mbps network link for streaming and cloud management. The fixed 2.8mm focal length provides a consistent field of view without mechanical adjustment. Heat dissipation relies on the dome housing and PoE power levels, keeping performance stable over long periods. The wired connection avoids wireless interference that can disrupt extended sessions.
