19-Gauge Galvanized Hardware Cloth

This roll of hot-dipped galvanized steel wire mesh measures 24 inches wide by 100 feet long. The .5-inch square openings block small rodents, snakes and similar pests from gardens, coops and enclosures. It is built for outdoor durability with a uniform zinc coating applied after welding.

Replaces lighter poultry netting or plastic mesh

The 19-gauge low-carbon steel wires and post-weld galvanization resist rust far longer than standard chicken wire or uncoated hardware cloth. The upgrade is worth it when the barrier must survive years of weather, ground contact or persistent chewing without sagging or corroding.

Unrolls flat and cuts with standard wire snips

Wear gloves to handle the cut edges and use pliers to bend the mesh around posts or frames. The roll weighs 26.9 lbs, so two people make positioning easier on long runs. Avoid kinking the wire during unrolling, as sharp bends can weaken the weld points over time.

Questions about this item

What size opening does the 19 gauge wire create for the mesh?

The welded grid forms 0.5 by 0.5 in openings that block small rodents while letting air and light through.

How do I secure the 24 in wide roll to wooden posts without tearing the galvanized coating?

Staple the mesh with galvanized poultry staples every 6 in along the frame; avoid over-driving staples so the zinc layer stays intact at each weld point.

When will the hot-dipped zinc layer on the 100 ft roll need attention?

The salt-spray tested coating is designed for years of outdoor exposure; inspect annually and touch up any scratched welds with cold-galvanizing compound to maintain corrosion resistance.
