VideoSecu RG179 BNC Cable

This VideoSecu CBRG1796-N1 cable provides a direct BNC male to BNC male connection for surveillance installations. It uses RG179 coaxial construction with fully moulded nickel connectors for reliable signal retention. The six-foot length suits short runs between cameras, recorders or distribution panels. Black jacket colour blends with typical security wiring.

Practical Limits of RG179 Coax

RG179 is a thin coaxial type intended for short-distance analogue video or low-bandwidth data links. Signal attenuation increases noticeably beyond a few metres, so the six-foot span is near the practical maximum for clean composite video. The cable is not rated for high-frequency digital protocols such as HD-SDI or long Ethernet-over-coax runs. Installers should keep total link length within the camera manufacturer’s specified limit.

Check Connector Gender and Run Length

Verify that both devices present female BNC ports; this cable will not mate with male or RCA interfaces without an adapter. Confirm that the six-foot reach covers the exact path between mount and recorder, allowing slack for strain relief. Ensure the installation environment accepts a non-plenum black PVC jacket if local codes apply.

Questions about this item

Is the 6 ft length right for linking a camera to a nearby DVR or should I choose a longer run?

The 6 ft cable suits short runs such as a camera mounted close to the recorder; for greater distances you would need a longer cable.

What does the RG179 designation tell me about signal loss once the cable is installed?

RG179 is a thin coaxial type; over 6 ft it carries standard analogue video with minimal attenuation.

The cable uses BNC male connectors — what equipment does that interface actually fit?

BNC male plugs mate with female BNC ports found on most analogue CCTV cameras, DVRs and coaxial Ethernet adapters.
