Purpose and fit

The VideoSecu VB201-N1 is a passive video balun pair designed for analogue CCTV systems that use NTSC, PAL or SECAM signals. Installers can replace 75 ohm coaxial cable with Category 5 or better twisted-pair wiring to connect cameras, multiplexers, switchers or monitors across a building or campus. The devices require no external power and install quickly via BNC male to terminal-block connections. They are not suited for digital IP cameras or installations that demand powered signal amplification.

Thermals noise and power

Because the baluns are completely passive, they draw zero power and generate no heat during operation. The twisted-pair path provides better EMI and RFI rejection than traditional coaxial cable, keeping the video signal clean without active filtering. No fans, power supplies or cooling considerations are needed, making the pair silent and maintenance-free in normal use.

What the bundle changes

The package supplies one matched pair of baluns, enabling an immediate point-to-point link without sourcing separate transmit and receive units. Each unit presents a BNC male connector on the equipment side and a terminal block for the Cat5 conductors, so installers can terminate existing UTP runs without crimping tools or specialised connectors. This reduces cable cost compared with plenum-rated coax and lets structured-cabling plant serve both data and analogue video.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the BNC male plug and the terminal block on the VB201-N1 balun?

Plug the BNC male directly into the camera or DVR jack, then strip each Cat5 conductor and secure it under the terminal-block screws — reversing the twisted-pair polarity is the step most installers get wrong.

What maintenance will the passive VB201-N1 balun pair need over time?

No power supply or active components exist to wear out; only the terminal-block screws may loosen from vibration, so re-tighten them during routine camera checks.

At what distance does colour video quality degrade first on a 1000 ft run?

Colour signal is specified to 800 feet; beyond that point monochrome continues to 1,000 feet while colour shows noticeable loss.
