Connecting Legacy VGA Sources to HDMI Displays

This active cable converts an analog VGA output into a digital HDMI signal for monitors, TVs or projectors. It includes a 3.5 mm audio input that merges sound into the HDMI stream. The 4.92 ft length suits notebook or desktop setups where the source and display are close together. It supports resolutions from 800 x 600 up to 1920 x 1080.

Plug-and-Play With External USB Power Required

Installation is straightforward: connect the VGA end to the source, the HDMI end to the display and the 3.5 mm jack to the audio output. The cable needs an external USB power source to deliver the 170 mA operating current; without it the converter will not function. A common issue is forgetting the USB power connection, which results in no signal or an unstable image.

Maximum 1920 x 1080 Resolution at 170 mA Draw

The single specification that determines suitability is the supported resolution ceiling of 1920 x 1080. Displays or applications requiring higher resolutions will not work with this adapter. The 170 mA power draw must be supplied via a USB port or charger, so buyers without a spare USB power source nearby should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the 1920 x 1080 image is stable after connecting the 900824?

Select 1920 x 1080 in your display settings and verify the picture fills the screen without flicker; the active converter draws 170 mA from its USB power lead, so ensure that connection is firm.

What comes with the VisionTek 900824 and what must I supply?

The box contains the 4.92 ft black active cable with an HD-15 VGA male, an HDMI male and a 3.5 mm audio jack; you must provide a USB port or charger to deliver the required 170 mA operating current.

Which resolution range should I expect from this 1.5 m VGA to HDMI cable?

The adapter supports display resolutions from 800 x 600 up to 1920 x 1080 (1080p), so choose it when your source and display both fall within that range.
