What this cord does

This six-foot extension cord carries AC power from a wall outlet to devices that use a two-prong plug. It is built for home or office equipment such as PCs, monitors, printers and power adapters rated up to 13 amps at 125 volts.

The rating that decides fit

The cable uses 16 AWG conductors and is UL listed for 13A at 125V, giving a 1625W maximum load. Only devices drawing 13 amps or less should be connected; higher-draw appliances will exceed the rating.

Installing and common issues

Plug the NEMA 1-15P male end into the outlet and the NEMA 1-15R female end into the device; the polarised blades go in one way only. The cord is not grounded, so it must not be used with three-prong plugs or in locations that require a ground connection.

Questions about this item

What does the 13A rating mean for devices I plug into this cord?

It allows a continuous draw of up to 13 amps, so any device or combination of devices totalling 1625 watts at 125 volts can run safely.

How does the NEMA 1-15P to NEMA 1-15R connection affect what I can plug in?

The polarized two-prong plug fits standard North American outlets, and the matching receptacle accepts any NEMA 1-15P device, but it cannot accept three-prong grounded plugs.

What clearance do I need behind furniture for the connectors?

The moulded NEMA 1-15P plug and NEMA 1-15R socket are both low-profile, so they sit close to the wall or power strip and need only a few centimetres of depth.
